Become a thriving therapist and succeed in private practice

Hello! I’m Sandy Stillo, PhD, LPC-S. My practice is based in Dallas, TX. I specialize in supervising LPC Associates who want to open their own private practices as well as LPCs seeking supervision for risk management purposes or board requirements. If either of these describe you, let’s dig a little deeper!

"I have years of experience working with Sandy Stillo, and cannot say enough about her competence as a consultant, supervisor, and therapist.  She is consistent in her presence and genuine care for those she works with, and it is easily felt.  Sandy has a wonderful capacity for attunement while also remaining grounded, and offers a profoundly intuitive wisdom to the therapists she supports."

Cultivate the extraordinary therapist within you

My guiding theory for therapy and supervision is humanistic and phenomenological:

I believe that you have the capacity to…

Understand and support even the most complex clients,

Build a successful private practice,

Overcome professional fears and disappointments, and

Find soul-deep fulfillment in your life and your career.

Maybe you have recently graduated, or maybe you have already been at this for some years, but either way, there is always more to learn.

If you are willing to do the work, I am here to do it with you.

Why choose me as your supervisor?

There are many amazing supervisors out there, so what makes me different?

Since the LPC Board changed the rules to allow pre-licensed Associates to have their own private practices, supervisors have had to make some tough decisions. Many have chosen not to supervise LPC Associates who want to start their practices prior to completing their hours, and I totally get it! It is undoubtedly more liability for the supervisor. It is also more work to ensure the associate is honing their clinical skills and developing business skills, all while practicing ethically.

While it is not every supervisor’s cup of tea, supervising LPC Associates in their own private practices excites me! I am willing to accept the extra responsibility, do the extra work, and make sure that you sail off well-prepared in every way once your hours are complete.

The other thing that sets me apart from other supervisors is my interest in working with LPCs who have found themselves in the unfortunate situation of being reported to the board. Good therapists make mistakes. It happens. Just because you made a mistake, even if it was that “big” mistake we all learned about, you can still be a good therapist. It is all about what you do next.

I believe in life-long learning, the importance of self-compassion and forgiveness, and the power of an abundance mindset. If you share these beliefs, schedule a consultation with me to see if we might be a good fit.

DO SUPERVISION DIFFERENTLY

Choosing the right supervisor is as important as choosing the right therapist. You have to feel comfortable with your supervisor and also feel confident that person is going to prepare you to practice on your own.

Sandy is incredibly personable, direct, smart, insightful, and is sensitive to who you are as a person as she guides you through the process of becoming a therapist. She challenges you in the best ways while being thoroughly supportive. You’re in the best hands with Sandy.”

Do supervision differently

Supervision is more than simple oversight; it’s mentorship, training, and an opportunity for increased self-awareness as you define yourself as a professional in this field.
